Here is the preaching schedule for the summer of 2008:
June 22 – Dr. Dean Thompson, President of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Dean will be in town for the General Assembly meeting in San Jose. People are still taking about Dean's outstanding sermon from his visit two years ago. June 29 –The Rev. Jon Brown is Sr. Editor and Coordinator for Mission Education and Promotion, the area responsible for the Mission Yearbook for Prayer & Study and special denominational offerings. Jon is a gifted worship leader and the go-to guy for Mission in the PCUSA. July 6 – Rev. Walt Johnson will preach as we celebrate the real 50th Anniversary of the charter of Valley Presbyterian Church in 1958.
July 13 -- Dr. John Koeker, all around good guy, and outstanding Biblical scholar. July 20 – Rev. Jeff Cheifetz is a Berkeley native who has pastored churches in Oregon, Washington, and California. He is involved in improvisational movement and theater. His wife Diana is ordained and works as a spiritual director. Their daughter Laura is also ordained and works at McCormick Seminary in Chicago, and son David is an architect. July 27 – John and Vivian Hiestand are new to seminary but not the church. John and Viv were once-upon-a-time VPC soloists, but have been called into ministry of spiritual direction and music. These gifted and dynamic friends will light up our worship time together. August 3 – The Almost Rev. Pepa Paniagua, newly minted pastor, and VPC favorite daughter.
August 10 -- Carla Christensen, Bible teacher extraordinare, seminary student, and karioke queen
August 17 -– Mark and Cheryl Goodman-Morris will be back from their summer adventures, and hopefully filled with new ideas and energy. August 24 – Doug Cannon, son of Bob and Vera Cannon, will be on furlough from his missionary work in China, and has graciously accepted our invitation to share his ministry with us. Doug began his ministry in Sichuan Province, the area recently devastated by the earthquake. August 31 -– Mark and Cheryl Goodman-Morris are back for worship with communion.
John Koeker will be the host/pastor while Mark and Cheryl are gone this summer and will be the main liturgist and worship leader for the summer. Please join us for what promises to be an exciting summer!
