Volunteer

Background Checks

All volunteers who wish to serve as Sunday school teachers or in the nursery must undergo a thorough background check. The background check will include a criminal history check, a sex offender registry check, and a reference check. The background check will be conducted by a third-party provider, and the cost will be covered by VPC.

Qualifications

Volunteers must meet the following qualifications to serve as Sunday school teachers:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have attended the church for a minimum of six months.
• Must complete an application form and attend an interview with the Sunday school director or a designated representative.
• Must successfully pass the background check.
• Must complete any required training for Sunday school teachers, including child safety and protection training.
• Must sign a mandatory reporting acknowledgement form

Volunteers must meet the following qualifications to serve as nursery or teacher assistants:

• Must be at least 14 years of age.
• Must complete an application form and attend an interview with the NextGen Director or a designated representative.

Confidentiality

All personal and confidential information obtained during the background check will be kept confidential and will only be shared with individuals who have a legitimate need to know.
