Who We Are ...
We are a base camp, building a more loving world.
Like a base camp for an outdoor expedition, Valley Presbyterian provides the resources, support, healing and renewal to help our church members pursue their unique life journeys, encouraging the growth of spiritual and community connection to create a better world.
Our core values:
Slowing down, we ask questions and experience the mystery of faith.
Seeking the sacred through creativity, playfulness and nature, we nurture our faith.
Dropping our masks, we invite each other to be our true selves.
Focusing outward, we build partnerships, create opportunities, seek justice and learn from each other.
Like the Redwoods, supporting one another through the seasons of life, we become rooted in a trusting, loving community.
Come for the view...
Step inside our sanctuary: what you see might take your breath away.
The entire back wall is a window, focused on the stunning redwood trees that tower just outside the church, united and serene in a supportive ring.
And if the morning light is just right, you’ll see the reflection of our stained-glass window from the front of the building, in the shape of a multi-color cross, hovering like a hologram amidst our backyard trees.
This setting invites contemplation and connection to God’s creation.
… stay for the community.
Valley Presbyterian Church has an international reputation as a destination wedding setting: bridal couples travel from as far as Tokyo and China to marry here. But for some 350 people in the Bay area, it’s more than a wedding, or even a Sunday, destination: it’s our home.
Some walk to church; others drive from neighboring communities and even from San Francisco, the East Bay, and San Jose.
Because of our proximity to Stanford and Silicon Valley, a lot of us work in academia or technology. Because of our love of and passion for the arts, many of us are working artists, writers, and musicians – or aspiring to be! We follow Christ in the teachings of the Reform tradition, though individually, our paths vary. What we share is a longing for God, a connection to the community, and meaningful ways to serve the wider world.
Our Larger Family
We are part of Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a denomination with some two million members, more than 10,000 congregations and 14,000 ordained and active ministers. Presbyterians trace their history to the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation, particularly through John Calvin (1509-1564). Click here to read the Brief Statement of Faith from the PCUSA.
Inclusive Towards LGBTQ+
In 2019, Valley Presbyterian Church joined two organizations that support LGBTQ+ communities within the Presbyterian Church: "More Light Presbyterians" and "Covenant Network of Presbyterians." Through our memberships with these spiritual groups, VPC seeks to make clear that we are inclusive and welcoming towards all people who seek spiritual growth, regardless of sexual orientation.
